Which are the most popular Chivas Regal’s whiskies?
It all started in Aberdeen, when brothers James and John Chivas began their experimentation and marketing with scotch whisky and malt whisky.
Today, the company is under the watch of Master Brewer Collin Scott, who is now in charge of keeping the landmark style of the brand.
On 1909, they made a 25-Year blend that would become the world’s first premium whisky. It was a pioneering drink, slightly smoked, that for some reason won the heart of New Yorkers.
On 1938, Chivas Regal released the very anticipated 12-Year whisky, one of the most consumed of the world up to this day.
Choosing a Chivas Regal whisky can be a difficult task, especially because the company has a wide variety of spirits.
But worry not, I’ll tell you all about the most popular of them.

Chivas Regal 12
A blended scotch whisky, Chivas Regal 12 is a mixture of malt and grains, matured for at least 12 years.

It has a tasty classic flavor, slightly smoked and lasting.
It has a bright amber color, herb tea-like, honey and cherry aroma. You can find it in pear, vanilla, honey and hazelnut flavours.
It stands out for being easy to drink. Its weak point is that it’s not a spectacular whisky. There’s people who claim that putting in a little bit of ice or water improves its taste and releases hidden notes.
I recommend it if you like the classic taste of blended whiskies.
Drink it in a large glass with ice.
It’s also a base to make cocktails as famous as the Chivas Collins with whisky.
Pros
- Easy to drink.
- Great for cocktails.
Cons
- There’s people who claim that it smells too much like alcohol.
Chivas Regal 18
It’s a refined and complex whisky, Chivas Regal 18 Year Old Gold Signature Blended Scotch Whisky is a blended scotch whisky, matured for at least 18 years in oak barrels.

It’s a subtly smoked and perfectly balanced drink.
It has won Gold in “The Scotch Whisky Master Competition”, Hong Kong IWSA; Silver, in “The international Wine & Spirits Competition” and in the Asian Spirits Masters.
It stands out for having at least 85 flavour notes, besides of having a dark amber color.
When smelt, the first thing that can be appreciated is the dried fruits, toffee and dark chocolate scent.
For the taste of the many notes it has, the ones that stand out more frequently are the dark chocolate and the smooth smoked flavour.
Consumer’s main point against it is that it’s very difficult to find the taste notes and that the alcohol taste stands out too much.
This is a better whisky for those of you that like smokey flavours, like those you find on a single malt, but subtler.
Drink it in a short glass with ice. This is also a good base for whisky cocktails, like Chivas 18 Sour or Auld Alliance.
Pros
- It has around 85 flavor notes
Cons
- Hard to find flavor notes.
- Some people insist that the alcohol flavor stands out too much.
Chivas Regal 25

Created on 1909, Chivas Regal 25 is a very high quality blended scotch whisky, matured for at least 25 years.
Being a limited edition drink, each bottle comes with a unique model number.
Winner of many accolades, the most important being Gold in The International Wine & Spirit Competition, in 2015 and 2016.
It has a golden color, an accentuated orange and peach aroma, with slight hints of nut.
Well known for its sweet taste; you can also find a flavour of dark chocolate with orange peel and creamy fondant. It stays on the palate for a while.
It’s main disadvantage is its price, you can find single malts of the same quality for a lot less. On the other hand, I recommend giving it a go to judge it yourselves.
It’s very friendly and easy to drink. I recommend drinking it pure, in a short glass to get a better feeling of it’s aroma.
With ice or a little bit of water, it still keeps it’s complexity.
Pros
- Sweet taste
- Lasting in the palate
Cons
- Very expensive, some say it is overpriced.
