The process may vary according to the distillery that makes it, but there are 4 basic steps to obtain it.

  1. The fruit juice must be fermented in order to obtain wine, which will be distilled into alcohol.
  2. Once the alcohol is obtained, the aging process begins. This step is the key that differentiates quality and variety.
  3. The next step consists in mixing the liquor with other Brandy barrels and water to reduce its alcoholic degree.
  4. Lastly, the bottling, which must be done with a minimum of 40° alcoholic concentrations.

What does Brandy taste like?

All Brandy brands have a particular flavor, but in general, the taste is sweet and fruity. It’s not extremely sweet but rather a subtle sweetness.

The sweet combined with the alcohol is somewhat like a combination between Whiskey and candy.

It has to be highlighted that the older the brandy is, the more delicate and woody its flavor will be. Also, the different flavor types are going to rely on the brandy’s base, the ones that are apple-based for example, tend to have a slightly acidic touch.
